The DNA Sequencing and Analysis Core has been in operation for the past twenty-one years and has provided users with state-of-the-art automated sequencing and computer analysis capabilities. In addition to providing these services, the core also provides development of new methodologies for the automated sequencing process, training of investigators with widely varying degrees of molecular expertise in the use of sequence analysis tools, development of new molecular biology approaches to characterize HIV/SIV genetic diversity, as well as facilitating multidisciplinary interactions.

The DNA Sequencing and Analysis Core thus supports the entire spectrum of AIDS related basic science research programs and has established itself as an integral component of the UAB AIDS Center.
