The UAB CFAR has played a critical role in stimulating interdisciplinary, translational research that bridges the basic, clinical, and behavioral sciences through targeted interdisciplinary research groups.
The IRGs are charged with developing specific, achievable objectives based on synergies identified between bench scientists and clinicians for the study of HIV/AIDS.

The events facilitated through the CFAR include convening the weekly Virology Discussion Group, CFAR monthly seminars, visiting professorships, and the new Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs).
